P2020020301 Network and IP Engineer (Multicast)
Tätigkeit

Implementing and using IP multicast over both satellite-based networks (DVB-S/DVB-S2 on commercial  geostationary telecommunication satellites) and WAN-based networks.

Working hours:   fulltime

Option:                permant position

 

Tasks:

System architecture engineering primarily for the evolution, maintenance and routine operations.This includes the multicast servers, multicast networks and multicast receivers.

 

In particular the tasks include (in order of importance):

 

Evolution:

  • supporting the implementation and testing of the multicast servers at the customers site;

  • supporting the implementation and testing of the multicast transport service with the network service provider(s);

  • supporting the implementation and testing of the multicast receivers at the remote sites with the external partners;

  • supporting the generation and analysis of user requirements;

  • specifying system and software requirements;

  • designing and prototyping system and software enhancements;

  • supporting the development of system and software enhancements;

  • generating technical documentation:

  • engineering change proposals;

  • system design and design justification documents;

  • interface control documents;

  • verification test plans, test cases and procedures;

  • maintenance procedures;

  • reviewing engineering change proposals and system design documents;

  • participating in technical meetings and formal reviews;

 

Maintenance:

  • supporting the integration, verification and validation testing of externally developed systems and software;

  • analysing system and software anomalies;

  • designing system and software corrections;

  • supporting the development of system and software corrections;

  • maintaining the existing system and software documentation;

  • providing advice and guidance with respect to maintenance issues;

 

Routine Operations:

  • supporting configuration changes;

  • supporting the deployment of new software releases;

  • supporting verification and validation testing;

  • providing second-line support;

  • providing training to the dissemination operations team;

  • providing maintenance procedures;

 

Your qualifications:

  • University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.

  • Experience in the operations, maintenance and evolution of data services in a highly-available (24/7) environment.

 

The candidate shall have the following mandatory experience and skills:

 

System Engineering Experience/Skills (with a minimum of 3 years for each):

  • Network-based server/client data distribution applications;

  • Standard file transfer protocols (FTP, FTPS, SFTP, HTTP/S);

  • High-Availability systems;

  • Requirements engineering;

  • Supporting end users;

  • Exploiting industry support;

 

Software Engineering Experience/Skills (with a minimum of 2 years for each):

  • Software development and/or maintenance using an object-oriented approach and following a formal life cycle, i.e. requirements capture/analysis, design, implementation, test and operations;

  • Configuration management and anomaly reporting/tracking tools;

 

A practical knowledge of the following technologies and tools would be an advantage:

 

Technologies:

  • IP multicast server/client applications (e.g. TelliCast);

  • IP multicast protocols and modes;

  • Managed networks;

  • Advanced Linux system administration;

  • Virtualisation;

  • Service-oriented system engineering;

 

Tools:

  • DOORS;

  • UML, SysML or Enterprise Architect;

  • Programming languages (e.g. Java, C++);

  • Shell scripting languages (e.g. bash, csh, perl);

  • Subversion;

  • Eclipse;

 

Furthermore, the key person must have excellent team working skills, be able to take initiative, work autonomously under high workloads and have good analytical and presentation skills.

Language:     English fluent oral and written, German, French a bonus
